Our impact

SIGNAL aims to have a positive impact on all its members and the wider community

We were heavily involved in getting Drumbeat, Lewisham’s autism-specific provision, set up in 2012

SIGNAL members formed CLASH (Campaign in Lewisham for Autism Spectrum Housing) and have been successful in getting supported housing for autistic adults opened in Forest Hill

Some of the things SIGNAL members say about the group:

Teen group

“My son has attended the SIGNAL teen group for 2 years now - as a teenager with autism he finds it very hard to independently socialise in the way that most other neurotypical teens can. This group enables him to socially interact with others in a way that he feels safe and secure.”

Support

“Having SIGNAL to lean on during the pandemic has been invaluable. I've been able to get some advice on a difficult situation with my son who is currently out of education.

I've had shoulders to cry on and people who totally understand what it's like. It can be so isolating having children with additional needs and no one understands it quite like another parent.

SIGNAL have also had some fantastic speakers online, so even though we can't have meetings in person like before, we can still hear some great perspectives.”

Yoga class

“I have found the SIGNAL yoga class a lovely quiet space to 'enter' as a sanctuary and regular weekly break, in good company. I love Mary's teaching and the way she leads the class, which offers just the right amount of support and attention; she notices everyone in the class.”

Facebook group

“Thanks to the SIGNAL Facebook group I am able to connect and reconnect with people for help and advice. Everyone is respectful and willing to help or pass on their experience/expertise.”

The SIGNAL team

“The SIGNAL team is always helpful, friendly and understanding - whether by phone, email or Facebook. I feel I have become part of the SIGNAL family. I am so looking forward to more events and meeting other people who have similar needs as myself. I also love the fact SIGNAL is inclusive of other family members when it comes to activities.”

Family trip

“Thank you for an amazing trip to Diggerland. My autistic son had a great time! It felt awesome having a day out with my family and not feeling isolated. We usually get stressed on days out but it really helped being with other families who understand your child's needs and who experience the same challenges as yours.”

Trampolining

“My autistic child has low self-esteem but the weekly SIGNAL trampolining session is boosting her confidence and putting a smile back on her face! She looks forward to attending them every week.”
