Mary is a Trustee for SIGNAL.

Mary says …

Aged 18 I went as a CSV (community service volunteer) to work in Ely hospital in Cardiff, a long stay institution for adults with what was then referred to as a ‘mental handicap’. Thirty-five years later I have seen much change in the way people with learning disabilities needs are understood and supported. I moved from Worcester to London after studying dance and drama, and worked with both children and adults with learning disabilities. This was mainly within the creative arts – for example, with Entelechy as a dance worker and Lewisham Young women’s project as a development worker for young people with special needs.

My son was diagnosed with autism aged 4, now 17. Through these years I have found immense support and knowledge from being a member of signal. I volunteer as a trustee to support the amazing work that Signal continues to do. I also teach Iyengar yoga and am a qualified social worker and Thai massage therapist.
